Return of the Idiot
by Notebook
I do have one update on the fucking idiot from this post.
Yes, unbelievably the person at the Agent did call back…but she didn't call me. We were taking a break in a motorway service station car park and MBHs phone went off with an Irish number. People we know won't call when we're away (because I think it's bloody bad manners). MBH said “Oh my I think it's the letting agent!” so I told her to call her back and hand it over to me…
I have a feeling it's not something this particular person was expecting and MBH is convinced she tried her again to avoid me. Probably right as I was tired from the drive so started out pretty much with a 'What the fuck are you doing? Have you lost your mind or do you just have no clue?' tack. I'm not going to go into too much detail purely because I think I've spent too much of my time on it already. But two phones calls, much of it spent with me explaining the lease agreement and legislation to one of my letting agents (WTF?!) and I've had no further calls or letters. This was my ultimatum:
“You have two choices: accept what I've just told you, or we go to the tenancies board to resolve”
But boy she tried. One of the 'best' exchanges (again bear in mind there is no need for us to sign another years lease):
“What if we write up another agreement for a year with a three month get out clause? Would you sign that?”
“Why on earth would I sign something when I don't need to??”
“Why would you not?!”
“BECAUSE_I_DON'T_NEED_TO”
You get the picture…
I really couldn't believe it. It certainly was a lesson learned for me. Between the first and second call we'd got to our hotel and were enjoying a drink in the Sun. MBH was convinced the agent would call back. I was certain they wouldn't citing the utter stupidity if it. It's not something they were allowed to do, they'd already had an earful from me so why would they call back? But MBH explained that it was Ireland, they would keep trying it on.
Lo and behold she was right.
That's led onto some interesting thoughts. I'll probably write about them later but even MBH was even asking why on earth we were staying in Ireland? She loves the UK but her parents are here, I love the UK.
Interesting times.
