I tried a bit of Yoga today. I've always been meaning to, and it seemed like every time I said to somebody “Hmm, I always wanted to try Yoga” the response I was getting back more and more was “Oh I do that, it's great! Makes you feel great!”
Now I'm all for feeling great.
So I downloaded a Yoga app on my iPad. Can't be bothered to find the link for it right now. But with a bit of time at lunchtime I hooked it up to the TV and gave it a go. Possibly not the best way to approach it. I didn't exactly look the part (Jeans and a Rugby Shirt) but I made it through a beginner program.
What do I think? Well I'm not too sure. I felt a little bit stretched out and it wasn't taxing in any way. Maybe it's something that you have to be doing for a while to get the full benefit? I need to lose some pessimism and silent the inner cynic for next time though. There is a lot of “Stretch up and feel the goodness” and other such … well I won't say nonsense as its not. I just wasn't in the mood to hear it right then.
It makes me grin. Twenty year old me was the biggest hippie going. Sometimes I laugh to myself thinking about younger me meeting older me. I'm not sure they'd get on – in a very classic way:
“Dude, what happened you used to be cool!?”
“I'm still cool, idiot. What's with the bracelets?”
“They mean things, you know that, special people and special places”
“Pft, get rid of them and get a proper job so I don't have to work so hard later”
“Man it's not all about work”
[Rolls eyes] “And THAT ATTITUDE is why I've had to work my arse off for longer than I hoped”
“You smile more than I remember…it reaches your eyes more…”
“Life's good, when you look at it, really look at it”
“Any other advice?”
“…[Spanish Girl] who you meet in London in a couple of years, granted a nice bum but far too much trouble”
“Dude, I'm like twenty now, how much trouble could it be…nice bum you say?”
[Mumbles] never fucking quick on the uptake back then…
“Nah…don't be a stranger eh?”
“Sure! So does it all work out?”
“…yeah. Never how you ever think it will. But it does”
